How do you entertain yourself when you’re bored at work?
Sponsored by World Golf Tour.![]()
Dude, I am a librarian! I am NEVER bored! :0
But, on the occasional slow moment, I check my e-mail accounts, do some research on whatever topic is on my mind (lately, ADHD), maybe chat with coworkers on the desk with me, or play the world's most addictive online game. I should be walking the stacks, and becoming more familiar with the collection, but it is hard to do that when a patron may be crying out for help somewhere...
Oh, and I smile at patrons a lot.
What is your weirdest pet peeve?
Submitted by belliebean
I haven't answered one of these in a while. I am weirded out by people propping their nekkid feet up on my coffee table, or having their feet near my food somehow. I love babytoes and babyfeet, but kid feet and grown-up feet need to stay the hell away from anywhere where I put food or beverages.
Also, I don't like people to give me a glass or pick up a glass of mine by picking it up at the top, thus placing their fingers in the inside of a glass that I drink from. Bleah!
Yes, I am neurotic...
What's the best music documentary or concert film you've seen?
don't know if this counts, but "a hard day's night" by the beatles.
and, we're okay here in the 805 area code -- the air quality is better, and the malibu fire is closer to being contained. i worry about the piru fire, but we shall see. the boys are still able to breathe, which is good.
Where do you consider home? Is it the place you grew up; the place you're currently living? Why is it home?
Submitted by uncagedbird.
i have to answer because i know who asked this...
my home is where i have the most memories, and where i feel the most like me. denver, where i was born and raised, is my first home. the chicago area, where i went after college with then-boyfriend-now-spouse, had my 1st child, got my first career, went to funerals, is my 2nd home. providence is kinda home, where i met some of my closest friends.
i currently don't feel like i'm home, even with a birth and a community of friends. i don't if/when i'll feel at home here. i still miss my old homes terribly.
What board game are you really good at? Really bad at?
i rawk at "settlers of catan," since i played the game when it was still a little-known german game with no english instructions (thanks to my hubby, that is no longer a problem).
but i suck at "monopoly." don't ask...
What are three things you want to learn, and three things you can teach others to do?
Submitted by bookishbiker.
yay, bookishbiker!
i want to learn how to play guitar, how to snowboard, and how to be more patient with family (and more ruthless with annoying phone calls).
i can teach people how to flirt, how to trust your gut when it comes to jobs, and how to ad-lib while cooking.
What words make you giggle (no matter how old you are)?
Submitted by Margurette.
henh. you said "giggle."
the way my mind works, i can giggle at almost anything in a perverted way. i've been telling dirty jokes and looking for innuendo since 5th grade, peoples, and have corrupted more sweet naive people than you can possible imagine.
that being said, i am amused by the booby bird...
(exeter? i hardly knew 'her!)
Which band or artist which is no longer performing or alive would you have loved to have seen?
Submitted by Rev Stan.
seeing the beatles play in the cavern club would have been cool, or being able to sit in on the recording of some of their albums (i could do without the screaming ninnies). and i always wanted to experience a dead or phish concert, just to understand the vibe of the scene.
i would have loved to see xtc perform live, but andy's stage fright prevents that from happening.
What are the 10 most memorable music performances you've seen? (Remember, "memorable" may not be good.)
Submitted by Bill.
in no particular order...
1) ministry with sepulchura, in rhode island. about 1992. cute escorts from my fraternity, one of whom, a 6 foot tall redhead from oregon, was engaged to guard me from the skinheads on the other side of the venue.
2) eric clapton, denver, 1986. robert cray opened, and he rocked. phil collins on drums, excellent. it was the first concert i went to of my own volition, and my mother was my escort. we were at the top of big mac coliseum (RIP), and i smelled a strange smell, like burnt nachos. i later figured out that all the yuppies were toking, and the pot smoke was rising up. it made my mom fall asleep.
3) mr. mister, denver, 1986. my first top 40 tenny-bopper concert. i touched the lead singer, and screamed like the rest of them. i still like their music.
4) many viewings of my scarlet life, chicago, 1995-1998 or so. great local band, lovely atmosphere at their gigs (they draped scarves and burned incense. fab trippy music. i had a crush on the girl who played the flute.
5) tori amos, sone theater in mccormick place (chicago), 1996 (?). she made me cry with her passion and beauty and music.
6) tori amos with alanis morrissette, new world music theater (or whatever they were calling it at that point), chicago area, 1999(?). have you ever heard a stadium of women shouting/singing the lyric "and are ya thinkin' of me when you f*ck her"? wow.
7) the first lollapalooza, 1991, fiddler's green, denver. janes addiction had topless girls writhing on stage. my friend w, who was younger than us, was buying us liquor, since he had a beard. outdoor showers. cute alternaboyz everywhere. my friend c managed to crowd surf her way to the stage during one of the sets, probably siouxsie. how can you possibly go wrong?
8) de la soul and tribe called quest, brown university, rhode island, 1992. the fun started with a girl fight 10 feet away (i got to know one of the combatants in a class the next semester). i found out that the omega phi psi's nickname was "the q's." rather nice episode of drinking and strip poker later on that weekend with one of the guys who went to the concert with me.
9) folk underground, millennium hotel, minneapolis, 2004. i discovered that dancing in a bustier is dangerous, but only to myself. fairy wings, on the other hand, potentially dangerous to others. the stage was littered with mangoes presented to the fabulous lorraine.
10) david bowie, big mac stadium (denver), 1990. the sound + vision concert was the first concert i went to by myself. i learned about how crowds bond and become friendly. plus, bowie is a freakin' god, gorgeous and talented.
then there is love & rockets, sting, skapone, stone temple pilots, new order, and many more in my past...
What's the infamous story people tell about you?
Submitted by Cherney.
well, there is more than one, i can tell you. depends on whether you're asking elementary school, high school, college, or adult friends. i've flashed people getting photographed at a wedding, gone to naked parties, been in rocky horror floor shows, and done many other interesting things with interesting people. if you want scoop, you'll have to ask nicely. :)
